Musical Achievements: Jennifer received a BA in Music Performance from Westfield State College in 1998. She has been teaching private lessons since her senior year in college. Jennifer has assisted as music director for local theater groups and has been conductor for several local and national church choir concerts, particularly through the Polish National Catholic Church. As a choir member, she has enjoyed performing with the Schola Nova Chorus, Springfield Symphony Chorus and Westfield Community Chorus. Jennifer has recorded with dark ambient musical artist, Autumn Tears, has appeared as backup singer for underground metal bands…and then changed it up for a time by touring as backup singer with a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, Changes In Latitudes.

Approach To Teaching: I teach beginner piano using the Alfred and Schaum method books. I always try to incorporate in holiday or pop songs that the students will enjoy as the lessons progress. With voice lessons, I always want to work on the kinds of songs and music that the students prefer. I am pretty versatile when it comes to song choices as long as I feel the student is capable of the level of the song. At the beginning of each voice lesson, we work on sight-singing, ear training and technique. Many of my voice students study other instruments, but for those who don’t, I make sure to incorporate music theory. I consider myself a pretty relaxed teacher, but if I see a student having struggles with their practice or progress, I do not hesitate to address it in the most supportive way I can.

In My Own Words: We are our own best teachers. My focus is to help students to be interested in self-discovery…to find that strength, courage and self-discipline within themselves and cultivate it. And, of course, music is always a more enjoyable experience if we allow ourselves to stand in that power.
